Handling Epic Gems

I'm curious how folks are handling epic gems within Rawr.

I belive the current Rawr model expects any particular gem to be either "available" or "not available".  But this isn't a great fit for the 4.3 epic gem model, where for most raiders, epic gems will be something they have some of, but not as many as they'd like.

Ideally I'd like an easy to way to tell Rawr which few pieces I've installed epic gems into, without having to tell Rawr's Optimizer that these gems are now available for population into every socket.  I've even got one piece that has both an epic red gem and a rare red gem, which is a combination that I don't believe Rawr's current model would ever offer (it would always assume either 2 epics or 2 rares.)

Thoughts?

What I do is I mark the items I put epic gems in with a blue diamond (shift click) and not have epic gems enabled in gem templates. That way if you enable regemming/enchanting/forging options in optimizer it will only consider replacing gems with normal ones, but keep using them in the ones you already placed.

And having one epic and one rare is perfectly doable. Just use the paperdoll and replace the gem individually, then it'll show up in the chart and you can mark it with blue.

Thanks Kavan.  It took me half an hour to figure out what the problem was:  in the filters by source, I did not have gems:crafted selected.  This meant that whenever I clicked on an individual gem socket, it would only show me the gem I already had socketed.  Since I did not know that that the paper doll was ever meant to allow individual gem substitution, this never struck me as wrong.  Now that I know this your solution makes perfect sense.

Coincidentally, the item I was trying to stuff an epic gem into was Kavan's Forsaken Treads.  It was only about 15 minutes in before I realized these were probably for you.  Congratulations!  I hope you are getting a cut of all the valor spent on them ;-)

I'm in the same boat now.

I have a few items with the Epic Brilliant Queen's Garnet, but obviously cannot use them in every item.

I looked in help and thought the shift-click diamond to blue would solve the issue, but it stops the item being modified in any way - reforge etc.

Is there any way to get rawr optimiser to not regem the items to the Rare Brilliant Inferno Ruby, but allow it to reforge the item ?

I'm not the expert on this, but you should be able to mark an item with a purple/blue diamond and then in the optimizer dialogue box, select override reforge.

Ah, of course. Knew there had to be a way.

Many thanks for the speedy reply :)
